Creighton Takes Two of Three from St. John's

Creighton took two out of three games from St. John’s to close out the regular season. The Jays won the first two games of the weekend before dropping the season finale. The Bluejays finished the season 36-15 overall and 13-5 in the Big East. Creighton finished in second place in the final conference standings.

The Jays started the series with a 6-3 win on Thursday. After jumping to an early 3-0 lead on the strength of a two run home run by catcher Michael Emodi, St. John’s fought back and tied the game at three after the seventh inning. That remained the score until the top of the ninth when CU posted three more runs for the final margin.

Creighton started and ended their scoring on Friday with home runs on their way to an 8-2 win. Shortstop Nicky Lopez got things started with a solo shot in the top of the first and third baseman Harrison Crawford capped off the game with a three run dinger in the top of the ninth. The Jays also got five shutout innings out of starting pitcher Jeff Albrecht.

The final game of the season was a loss for CU as St. John’s scored three runs each in the first and the eighth innings to knock off the Jays 6-2. Creighton was held to just two hits in the game.

With the regular season completed, the Bluejays turn their attention to the Big East Conference Tournament where they will face Seton Hall in their opening game on Thursday.
